Foiral
Foiral literally means "market square" and could have been the site of the market in the town of Orgueil. A little before, you will see a path marked with red and white which leads to the left. This is the GR636, one of the many marked hiking trails. This leads towards Touzac, then towards Bonaguil.
The harvest takes place at the earliest at the end of September, depending on the weather and the maturity of the grapes. We are limited by the appellation to 50 hectoliters per hectare. Through certain cultural practices (natural grassing of every other row, disbudding, etc.), we try to further reduce yields to improve quality. The average is around 30 hl/ha.
Hand picking is preferable in many ways because it allows for better fruit selection. We harvest between 50 and 100% of the harvest by hand, and the rest by machine when the weather does not allow us to wait. Machine harvesting has the advantage of being very fast. If the weather really press us, it would be possible to harvest the 17 hectars in 3 days (with a smaller team) and therefore put the grapes in the vats in a very short time, when it takes 2 weeks and a lot more fun by hand !
The hand/machine complementarity allows Château Latuc wines to retain the fruity taste of the grapes by adapting as best as possible to climatic conditions.
