Gradde
At a place called "Gradde", the vines were planted in 1978 on an area of 2.8 hectares. These vines are located in the Cahors controlled appellation (AOC) area. The village you can see in the distance is Mauroux and the nearest building is an old priory.
Pruning of the vines begins in January and continues until March. This work represents approximately 1200 hours of work, and is carried out using electric or pneumatic pruners. The pruning that we apply consists of keeping a main shoot with 9 buds (the arrow) and another smaller one, called "cot" for the following year, with only 2 buds. Technicly the "cot" will give the arrow for the following year. All the old branches are then crushed to return some of the organic matter to the soil. The shoots are then attached to the lower wire, and ready for growth the following spring.
At this point, the path deviates to the left, where our picnic area is located. The pile of stones visible on your left are not the remains of an abandoned barn but are made up of stones removed during plowing, the ground being very rocky here.
