Eglise de cabanac

The church is mentioned as early as the 10th century in the will of Archdeacon Engilbert.

The church first belonged to the bishop of Cahors, then, around 1254, to the chapter of the cathedral by exchange with the church of Saint-Martin de Caïx.

The apse could be dated to the end of the 11th century or the beginning of the 12th century.

The bell tower was raised above a pre-choir bay at the end of the 13th century or the beginning of the 14th century. A dwelling was then built to the west, in line with the nave. Two large chapels were built at the end of the 15th century or the beginning of the 16th century, on either side of the nave, to form a transept. The old house is then joined to the nave which is then enlarged. The staircase tower and the portal are contemporary with these additions.

The nave and chapels were only vaulted in the 17th century. The side chapels received groined vaults and the nave had ribbed crossings profiled with tori resting on half-columns and pilasters decorated with volutes inspired by the Ionic capital.

The church bell dates from 1782 as we can read above, with Jean-Baptiste Joseph Marc Duroc de Mauroux, Baron d'Orgueil, de Cabanac, de Lacapelle and Touzac as godfather, and his wife, Catherine Rose, as godmother. Liru's Esp.

The building was registered as a historic monument on February 16, 1991.

Those informations were provided by Wikipedia I'm afraid... what we can personally add is that this "little" piece of history is even more beautiful in real life... at sunrise and sunset, and even between the two...  If you pass by here, don't hesitate to stop and have a little walk around.
